How much does it cost to make a shirt?

Our prices vary depending on the type of shirt and the number of imprints placed on the shirt.  As a general guide our price includes the shirt, standard design time (15 mins) and printing on 1 side of the shirt with unlimited numbers of colors using DTG.  If a second side of the shirt is added there is an additional $8.00 charge.  If your design has more detail than can be created in the standard 15 mins, there is a $10 charge for each additional 15 mins up to a total time of 1 hour. If the design cannot be completed within 1 hour, we recommend that you hire a graphic artist and bring us your completed design. Below is a table of the shirt categories and prices for DTG printing or single color regular vinyl prints effective September 1, 2021. Multi color vinyl and premium vinyl are additional. DTF printing is also available for an additional $6 for the first side.

What kind of artwork do I need?

The majority of the artwork we use is created by our customers with the assistance of our graphic artists in the retail location.  We also have thousands of stock designs to choose from both in the store and online.  If you have artwork or designs of your own that you would like to use we accept (.ai), (.eps), (.cdr), (.pdf), (.png), (.tif), (.jpg) and (.psd) files (if you have a different format, please contact us to see if it can be used).

The highest quality reproduction will come from Vector based images such as Adobe Illustrator (.ai) and Corel Draw (.cdr) files.  Vector files are created by mathematical equations which allows Vector art to scale, keeping its proportions and quality when sized up or down.  Vector files can be produced with a variety of programs including Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw.

Non-vector (or Raster) images, typically .jpg, .png, .tif or .psd files, consist of individual pixel information where every pixel is assigned a color value.  As these images are sized up or down, the image tends to distort or pixilate.  If you are using non-vector files please make sure that they are higher resolution (at least 300 dpi), and are saved at the size you need printed.

Images taken from web sites are generally low resolution and cannot be reproduced well on a T-shirt.

You are welcome to email your designs prior to coming into the store. Send the design to art@bakedts.com or upload your artwork through our website. This will only speed up the process as we do not process orders over the phone or via email.

Can I order over the phone or email?

We do not take any orders over the phone or via email. We have invested in technology that allows for our customers to design their own shirts through our online store.  Using this method eliminates any misunderstandings that may cause issues with your order.

Are you able to ship my shirts?

Yes.  If you are ordering through our online store you are presented with shipping options, including in store pickup.  The system will automatically calculate the shipping costs and include it in the pricing.  If you need an order placed in the retail store shipped, we are happy to accommodate.

Can you ship overseas?

Yes. We have shipped items to many different countries.

Can you explain the difference between Direct to Garment, Direct to Film, Screen Printing and Vinyl Printing?

The majority of the shirts that are custom printed use our Direct to Garment printing process.  This process is performed using advanced technology that allows for the printer to print directly onto the surface of the shirt, much like a computer printer prints on paper.  This allows for virtually unlimited color combinations without the need to charge for each color.  The ink will become part of the shirt itself providing for years of wear without cracking or peeling.  The garment material must be at least 50% cotton and the higher the cotton content, the better the print will look. The most complex part of this process is the printing of white ink or printing on dark color shirts.  Many DTG printers do not have the technology or experience to do this, however, Baked T’s has invested in this technology and we have been printing white ink since the day we opened.

Currently our Direct to Film process uses the same printer as DTG, however, the design is printed on a specialized material that is then treated and transferred to the garment. The result is a highly detailed vibrant print that can be used on many different materials including cotton, nylon, treated leather, polyester, 50/50 blends and more.

Screen printing is a process where each printed color requires a screen to be made by which the ink is passed through the screen onto the shirt.  Think of it as a stencil.  In this process, the ink remains on the surface of the shirt which may cause cracking and peeling over time.  This process is typically used for larger volumes due to the substantially lower cost.  The price for screen printed shirts goes up with the number of colors.

Vinyl printing is a process where a design is cut from a roll of vinyl and then subsequently peeled using a process called weeding.  Like screen printing, each color of Vinyl requires a new layer making it very difficult to produce multi color designs.  Once cut, the vinyl is heat sealed onto the shirt.  Vinyl is best for low quantities with 1 or 2 colors or designs needing special characteristics such as metallic, glitter, reflective, and other specialized materials.

How long does it take?

The majority of orders placed in our retail location are produced while you wait.  Typically we spend about 15 minutes on the design and the printing takes about another 15 minutes.  If we have numerous orders to process it could take longer but we are usually able to produce the shirts the same day.  In an effort to be fair to each customer, we may limit the number of shirts for same day production.

Can I bring in my own shirt?

We do accept brought in items that we can apply custom cut vinyl. The items must be new, never washed or worn with tags still attached. We will not screen print or direct to garment on customer supplied items.

Does it cost the same if I bring my own shirt?

From a legal perspective, the industry standard policy as it pertains to ownership of designs is as follows:

Customer Owns Design if any of the following apply:

  1. Customer brings in complete design and no changes are required by vendor
  2. Customer purchases design from vendor (currently $50 per design)

While Baked T’s attempts to produce customer designs only for the original customer, the only way this can be guaranteed is if the customer legally owns the rights to the artwork (as described above). We will not knowingly reproduce customer designs, however, we do not have the ability to track all authorized individuals for each customized design that we produce. We also cannot reproduce any copyrighted material unless the customer is the owner of the copyright.
